Not sure where to start with your SOPs? Start here.
When it comes to documenting SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), the biggest hurdle is often just knowing where to begin.
So, here’s the simplest and most effective place to start:
Start with the most troublesome process in the company
Ask yourself and your team: What is the process in your business that constantly causes issues, delays, or confusion?
It’s costing you time, money, and team morale
Fixing this process first will create the biggest and most immediate impact.
Here’s what to do next:
Identify the process that leads to the most errors or frustration in your day-to-day operations. Think complaints, back-and-forths, or recurring mistakes.
Break it down step by step. Don’t try to fix it all in your head. Write out the entire workflow to see exactly where things break down.
Document the correct way to do it. Make it clear. Make it repeatable. Avoid ambiguity so that anyone on your team can follow it.
Test it with your team. Refine as you go. An SOP is not a one-and-done document. It requires revision.
Action Step:
Document an SOP of the most troublesome process in your company.
